Home Loops versus Bluetooth Streaming

Hearing Loops have more uses than just in public public venue. They can also be used in homes, where they are typically connected to the TV or the stereo system and the loop wire surrounds the living room.

As an alternative, Bluetooth streaming systems are available for almost every hearing aid brand and can be purchased from local hearing professionals.

The following list describes the advantages and disadvantages of each of the two options:

Both Systems

  •  Transfer sound to the user's hearing aids
  •  Sound is much clearer than with hearing aids in "regular" mode
  •  Volume can be adjusted independently of TV loudspeakers

Bluetooth Streaming

  • Very easy setup
  •
  • Typically not susceptible to electromagnetic interference

  • Requires pairing with hearing aids
  •
  •  Not available for low cost hearing aids
  •
  • Most systems require user to wear streamer around the neck
  •
  • Only some systems can be used by multiple people at the same time
  •
  • Drains hearing aid battery faster
  •
  • Possible time delay that causes lip sync problems.

Hearing Loop

  • Available with most hearing aids, even low cost
  •
  • Can be used by multiple people at the same time
  •
  • No time delay
  •
  • Very easy to use

  • Wire installation can be difficult
  •
  • Can pick up electromagnetic interference
